General Notes

Zest Ramen is an interesting restaurant - located in the Lower East Side, they specialize in ramen and oysters. Ramen and (raw) oysters certainly is a strange combination. This place has some very good reviews online, but the food was rather disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Positives

> The food is very affordable. The bowls of ramen will set you back no more than $13 or so. The appetizers are also pretty reasonably priced.

Negatives

> The food is overall really bland. Both the fried oysters and the ramen that I ordered had disappointingly little flavor.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★☆☆☆ Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen -- The broth didn't really taste like anything other than spiciness - very bland. The noodles are thin, the broth doesn't adhere to the noodles well, and they clump up too much. For some reason, there was a bunch of strands of ginger in the ramen, which added a terrible flavor. On the bright side, the egg and the pork belly is cooked really well.
  • ☆☆☆☆ Fried Oyster -- The oysters were fairly bland and had an odd taste that didn't feel super fresh. The inside was really watery and as a result extremely hot. Dipping sauce resembled tonkatsu sauce and didn't go with the oysters very well.
