General Notes

Zaoh looks nondescript and ... the food is also pretty nondescript. Nothing about the experience stood out, and everything that I ordered was mediocre. It's hard for the food at Japanese restaurants to be _too_ bad but this was getting pretty close to the bottom. It's right next to my current apartment though, so I had to try it sometime. At least they have the happy hour deals.

Positives

> They offer a happy hour from 5-8pm every day (for all intents and purposes, all of dinner), during which you can get appetizers / rolls for around 20% off, which is a pretty solid deal.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★☆☆☆ Dragon Roll -- They added cucumber to the dragon roll, which really threw off the flavors. Otherwise, probably would have been one of the better dishes that I had.
  • ☆☆☆☆ Tempura Udon -- The tempura is overcooked; the vegetables are mushy and the shrimp is rock-hard. The batter is too heavy. And the udon broth is pretty disgusting.
  • ★☆☆☆ Herring with Roe -- This tastes ... odd. The balance felt a little off; I think I would have liked more herring and less roe. It was a little too sweet. Probably nothing wrong inherently with the sashimi, just not for me.
  • ★☆☆☆ Seaweed Salad -- A little too cold and a little sweeter than I would have liked. Otherwise, okay though.
