General Notes

Yu Yu Za Zang looks like any typical cheap Chinese-American restaurant but actually serves solid food, a mix of Chinese and Korean dishes. They seem to be most well known for their tangsuyuk (deep fried pork with sweet and sour sauce), jajangmyeon, and zampong. I had the jajangmyeon and wasn't a big fan (although I did consume it an hour after picking it up from takeout, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt). Decent food and generous portions at a very reasonable price point.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★☆☆ Poached Dumplings -- Average dumplings, nothing particularly noteworthy. A bit on the smaller side.
  • ★★★☆ String Bean Tofu -- This dish is stir-fried really well. The tofu is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The dish is flavorful but not excessively so, savory but not too oily.
  • ★☆☆☆ Jajangmyeon -- The noodles have a nice texture. Personally not a fan of the sauce though -- it had a slimy texture, was a bit too sweet, and didn't have many pork chunks. I did consume this nearly an hour after picking it up from takeout though, so I'll give Jajangmyeon in general the benefit of the doubt. For now, I prefer the Chinese variant.
