General Notes

German / New American beer hall serving up classics like bratwursts, pretzels, and beer. But executed beautifully. Most German restaurants I've been to have been uninspiring, but this was definitely an exception. The food is delicious (and so satisfying), the ambiance is nice, and it's pretty reasonably priced. Apparently, the famous food writer J Kenji Lopez Alt (the author behind "The Food Lab") is behind this place!

Positives

> This is a fantastic place for a hangout -- it's reasonably bright, has great seating (and plenty of it). Good place for larger groups too, as there are a lot of long tables in the middle of the restaurant.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ Kenji's Korean Hot Chicken Bites -- Bite sized pieces of double fried chicken thigh, chili oil, dry Korean spice blend, yogurt ranch. The flavor is a touch unbalanced (could use a bit more sweetness, possibly in the sauce), but overall well-fried and nice flavor.
  • ★★★★ Sauerkraut Kasedilla -- Swiss and Muenster cheeses, sauerkraut, pickled Fresno chilis, griddled flour tortilla, mustardy hot sauce. This is incredible, particularly the mustardy hot sauce. It's delicious and pairs beautifully with the "kasedilla".
  • ☆☆☆☆ Preserved Lemon Slaw -- This has a really strange, acrid, unpleasant taste. Not a fan.
  • ★★★☆ Chili Cheese Bratwurst -- Love the griddled split top bun, which has so much nicer of a texture than your typical hot dog bun. The bratwurst itself is wonderful, and the flavor combination is excellent.
