General Notes
"Japanese-style Italian cuisine" sounds really strange, but the fusion works surprisingly well. The ambiance is a little odd and gives off vibes of checkered tablecloth Italian restaurants. The food is delicious though, and the service was lovely the time I came here.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★★ Risotto Ikasumi Squid Ink -- risotto made with mochi mugi, which is apparently a type of Japanese barley. It works quite well in this dish, it has a slightly bouncy texture. Also comes with squid, which is cooked really well. The basil and lemon adds a nice touch and rounds out the flavor. Great dish!
- ★★★☆ Bruschetta Nakamura-Ya Style -- toasted homemade baguettes topped with tuna + spicy cod roe; octopus + avocado with wasabi mayo; anchovy oil topped with mozzarella cheese. All of these were great combinations, I preferred the first two over the mozzarella one but all were delicious.
- ★★☆☆ Octopus Carpaccio -- with wasabi mayo. The octopus was decent (not as rubbery as cheap sushi places), but overall I'm not convinced that octopus is right for carpaccio. It's still got a relatively chewy texture. The flavor with the wasabi mayo is nice, though.
