General Notes
This restaurant is trying to do way too much. The flavor combinations and presentation are so complex and often they're unintelligible and just too out there. The food isn't bad but it is by no means worth the money (it's quite expensive) and doesn't live up to the hype that it gets online.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★☆☆ wild mushrooms -- crostini, young ginger. Decent, although it's not nearly as much mushroom as you'd think because there's the crostini underneath. The sauce is nice, but I don't like the fact that the crostini is underneath.
- ★★★☆ pork chop -- brentwood corn, jimmy nardello pepper aigre-doux, barbecue marmalade. Served with cornbread. Every component of this dish was prepared well. It's still a bit out there in terms of its presentation and the combination of sauces, but it was quite tasty overall.
- ★☆☆☆ diver scallops -- main diver scallops, floyd cardoz's ocelot watermelon curry, crispy rice, shiso. The scallops themselves are quite delicious but the flavor combination and combination of textures is just so strange.
- ★☆☆☆ heirloom tomatoes -- house-made ricotta cheese, taggiasca olive, melba toast, magic dust. there is simply way too much going on here. The flavor combination is unintelligible. The lemon verbena and basil are a nice touch.
- ★★☆☆ jamon iberico de bellota -- first time having jamon iberico, it was ... somewhat uninspiring.
- ★★★☆ pakora -- bengali sweet potato pakora, truffle-yogurt dip. This was quite tasty
