General Notes

The Spinnaker probably has some of the best views of the city, period. Unlike most of the other restaurants in Sausalito, this restaurant is on a piece of land that juts out into the sea, giving fantastic unobstructed views. And every table in the restaurant has such a view. Surprisingly it was also not that crowded (maybe because it's a bit out of the way?), but they were able to seat us pretty quickly despite the fact that I visited during a holiday week with beautiful weather (12/30). Food is decent but not particularly noteworthy, but if you're coming here it's most likely for the experience.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ (special) Petrale Sole -- one of their specials of the day, for $43.95. It was a dish with petrale sole, crab, crispy risotto cakes, and asparagus cake. It was actually really delicious. The crab was super flavorful, the fish and risotto cake were fried well, and the sauce complimented everything nicely.
  • ★★☆☆ Squid Ink Spaghetti & Baja Prawns -- chopped tomatoes, garlic, shallots, capers, basil. The prawns were pretty good, the spaghetti was overcooked and had no squid ink flavor of note. The sauce was alright.
  • ★★☆☆ Bouillabaisse -- prawn, scallop, clams, mussels, fresh fish in a rich broth with garlic bread. An interesting take on bouillabaisse, I wish the soup were lighter (it seemed like they added quite a bit of cream), and the bread was a little too strongly flavored. The seafood was cooked beautifully, would have liked the saffron flavor to go with it though.
  • ★★☆☆ Calamari Fritte -- the calamari was delightfully tender, perfect texture, but the batter was not quite as crispy as I was hoping for.
