General Notes
The Black Sheep is an excellent New American / Asian (mostly Vietnamese) fusion restaurant in the southwest corner of Las Vegas. The food is inventive and delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. There are so many delightful dishes on their menu; I would love to return sometime to try their other offerings (such as the braised pork jowl!)
Dishes Tasted
- ★★☆☆ Lychee Passionfruit Cheesecake -- lychee cheesecake with a passionfruit sauce. Pretty good, I like that the crust is a little more "crunchy" than typical cheesecake crusts. The flavor was decent but I found that the tartness from the passionfruit overwhelmed the lychee flavor somewhat.
- ★★★☆ Slow Braised Short Rib -- kimchi fried rice, green scallions, sesame seed, pickled red radish, organic sunny side up egg. The short ribs are fork tender; it could have used a touch more intensity / seasoning in the sauce. The kimchi fried rice and egg are delightful, and the pickled red radishes are a nice touch.
- ★★★☆ Imperial Rolls -- duroc pork and shrimp, pickled heirloom carrots & radish, yellow frisee salad. The imperial rolls are flavorful, well-fried, and have an excellent texture. The dish is a touch oily; there's a bit of oil pooled up at the bottom of the dish which made parts of the rolls not as crispy, but not a huge deal. Not a fan of the carrots, which taste too "raw".
- ★★★★ Peach + Plum Salad -- (I don't remember exactly what goes into this dish) blue cheese creme brulee, pancetta, macadamia nuts. Seems like a strange combination at first but it works really, really well. The blue cheese creme brulee was really unique and paired beautifully with everything. Definitely a pretty sweet salad, so be warned if that's not what you're looking for.
