General Notes
Thai brunch place that opened recently in Berkeley that's famous for their lava egg brunch dishes. It is VERY popular, and you can expect a pretty long wait on the weekends. The food is delicious and worth a try. Overall, their lava eggs are delightful (definitely give them a try), the flavors are on point, and there are a few dishes for which the texture of the meat / minor components feel a bit off. The food takes a bit long to come out but supposedly it's all made in house. A bit cramped but overall good vibes. It's also cool to see that the person who's on the "logo" for Tanzie literally works there and was our server!
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ nam prik ong -- Fried rice with ground pork cooked in tomato and house curry paste served with a fried egg and sliced sai oua sausage. The sausage is delicious (love the lemongrass flavor), the fried rice is nice too. The tomato and cucumber on the side are weird and not necessary -- they become warm and unpleasant. A touch greasy.
- ★★☆☆ gaeng hung le -- fried rice with soft pork belly slow cooked in a slightly sweet, bright complex curry served with a fried egg. Overall good, the pork belly could be a bit more tender though.
- ★★★☆ nam prik kha -- Slow cooked beef shank with a punchy mix of galangal, garlic and toasted chilis. The beef shank itself is ok (could be a bit more tender) but the flavors are amazing.
- ★★★☆ khanom krok -- bite sized coconut cakes with yam, sweet corn, and green onion. Quite delightful, very soft and just the right level of sweetness
- ★★★☆ thai beignets
