General Notes

One of the most famous taco restaurants in San Diego, with various locations across the region. Although I believe the Chula Vista one (this review) is often considered the best one. According to many people, this is THE place to go for more traditional tacos like carne asada or al pastor. It's a bit overhyped in my opinion, but it's still very solid food at reasonable price points. It's become a quintessential aspect of the San Diego experience, so I'd recommend giving it a try regardless.

Positives

> The tortillas are very well constructed and have a lovely texture.

Negatives

> This restaurant is pretty chaotic. There are three or four separate lines, each serving different items. If you want to try different items, you'd have to get in multiple lines. Then you bring the items over to a cashier to pay. Ordering can be pretty intimidating if it's your first time, especially if you don't speak Spanish.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★★ Al Pastor -- The best one; tender and flavorful!
  • ★★☆☆ Nopal -- Traditional, but personally not my favorite. The cactus is pickled and has a strange acrid aftertaste.
  • ★★☆☆ Carne Asada -- Good charred flavor, but the meat was fairly dry.
  • ★☆☆☆ Chorizo -- Dry and overly crumbled
