General Notes

Great Szechuan restaurant, with multiple locations across the NYC area. Good food and nice ambiance. Expect a significant wait, though.

Positives

> The ambiance in the restaurant is nice! My only complaint was that the lighting at my table was somewhat harsh and came from directly above, slightly behind me, which cast shadows on whatever I was eating at the time.

Negatives

> This place can get very, very busy. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation if possible (try calling them; I don't think their online reservation portal works properly). If not, expect to wait around ~1h on average, depending on the day. As a result of how busy they are, the service is a bit sparse and slow too.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★★ 水煮牛肉 -- This dish is really, really well-made. The beef is tender and has a lovely mouth feel. The flavors are on point and it's actually a pretty hearty portion of beef; it isn't all chilis or all soup like many other restaurants.
  • ★★★☆ 干锅花菜 -- Cooked perfectly, nice flavor (if anything, a bit too heavy on the sauce). Great dish overall.
  • ★★☆☆ House Chicken -- poached chicken with chili sauce and peanuts on top. Like the swing pork belly, the flavor simply falls a bit flat. It's not necessarily bad, just uninteresting. The chicken is a touch drier than I would like.
  • ★★☆☆ Swing Pork Belly -- thinly sliced pork belly with cucumber and garlic sauce. An interesting concept; I do like the cucumber interleaved between the pork belly a lot. The flavor is a bit off; the garlic is way too pungent and there isn't much flavor other than chili oil + garlic; would like some other salty component.
