General Notes

Good quality sushi but very overpriced and probably not worth the money. For example, the omakase option was 8pc for $48, not to mention the pieces were tiny. The other dishes are relatively small as well. For the normal amount that I'd eat for dinner, I'd easily spend ~$200 after tip/tax. That being said, this was my first time in downtown San Mateo and it was a lovely experience! I'll probably return to downtown San Mateo at some point, just not to this restaurant.

Negatives

> For reservations on weekends, they only hold your table for 90 minutes. And they apparently actually book the tables back to back, so it's a relatively hard cutoff. I believe their reservation times are 5:30, 7:00, and 8:30.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★☆☆ Omakase -- 8pc + castella egg cake. The sushi was solid, especially the scallop, tuna, and mackerel. Unagi and egg cake were pretty meh. I don't really remember the rest. The pieces are relatively small, definitely one-bite pieces.
  • ★★☆☆ Black Cod -- Marinaded with saikyo style miso. Pretty good; relatively tender, juicy, and flavorful. It was a not as warm as I would have liked, which made the flavor shine less
