General Notes
First German restaurant that I've been to, overall nice experience. Solid food and rustic vibes. Overall, I don't have the greatest impression of German food, but this was done pretty well.
Positives
> The portions are MASSIVE. And not surprisingly, the food is very hearty. Vegetables are definitely not their specialty. This place is great if you're hungry and/or tired, but definitely don't come here if you're looking for something light.
Dishes Tasted
- ★☆☆☆ spatzle -- it's alright, not particularly noteworthy. Just cheesy pasta without much flavor.
- ★★★☆ weinerschnitzel -- the fried pork cutlet is surprisingly delicious, I might even hazard to say that I like this more than tonkatsu. The potatoes are also quite nice.
- ★★☆☆ pretzel -- served with mustard + cheese sauce. It's okay.
- ★★★☆ (Special) Pork Belly -- Rolled pork belly, potato salad, beer sauce, horseradish sauce. I don't remember the exact details as it isn't on their menu. There was a large piece of lean meat in the center which was dry and tough. But the rest of the dish was delightful. Pork belly had a delightfully crisp exterior, a perfect ratio of fat to meat, and a flavorful herb rub. The beer sauce and horseradish side complemented it well.
- ★★★☆ Reibekuchen -- Potato pancakes with homemade apple sauce, sour cream, & chives. Very similar to latkes, but the potato hash is composed of thin "strands" of potato, which gives it a better texture. The exterior is delightfully crispy without having an accrid taste, and the interior is fluffy.
