General Notes

First time at a German restaurant, and I enjoyed my experience. Food was solid -- a few flaws but otherwise quite nice. Service was a bit slow at first (we sat outside, as the inside was full), but our server was really nice and friendly. I didn't have a chance to check out the inside too much, but they definitely have more of a rustic vibe.

Positives

> The portions are MASSIVE. And not surprisingly, the food is very hearty. Vegetables are definitely not their specialty. This place is great if you're hungry and/or tired, but definitely don't come here if you're looking for something light.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ (Special) Pork Belly -- Rolled pork belly, potato salad, beer sauce, horseradish sauce. I don't remember the exact details as it isn't on their menu. There was a large piece of lean meat in the center which was dry and tough. But the rest of the dish was delightful. Pork belly had a delightfully crisp exterior, a perfect ratio of fat to meat, and a flavorful herb rub. The beer sauce and horseradish side complemented it well.
  • ★★★☆ Reibekuchen -- Potato pancakes with homemade apple sauce, sour cream, & chives. Very similar to latkes, but the potato hash is composed of thin "strands" of potato, which gives it a better texture. The exterior is delightfully crispy without having an accrid taste, and the interior is fluffy.
