General Notes

I've been here three times now, and my opinion of this place changes slightly every time. The food is pretty inconsistent - I've had good experiences as well as relatively bad experiences. Sulmona offers a variety of options - street food, appetizers, charcuterie, pizza, pastas, and meat/seafood. I don't think I would necessary recommend this place. Its most redeeming factor is perhaps the fact that it's close to MIT campus, a nice environment, and offers a large variety of items.

Positives

> The interior decor and atmosphere is pretty cool. I found the table to be a bit dark, but otherwise a nice environment.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★☆☆☆ Frutti di Mare -- This dish had some major flaws. First, the seafood was overcooked and somewhat hard. Second, the texture of the pasta was very wrong - it was overly starchy and gave an unpleasant mushy feel in the mouth. This kind of seeped into the broth and made it unpleasantly thick/cloudy. Overall, the flavor of the dish was pretty nice though.
  • ★★★☆ Porchetta -- Traditional Abruzzi style pork. Very flavorful and relatively tender (although some parts were a bit dry). The broccoli rabe and polenta were great complements to the dish.
  • ★★★☆ Arancini -- Creamy, well-fried, and the tomato/basil sauce complements it well.
  • ★☆☆☆ Wild Boar Ragu -- The only positive was that the pasta was cooked well. Otherwise, the sauce was really bland, lacked seasoning, and really any flavor other than a really pungent cheese flavor. The wild boar was reasonable but not particularly tender and also flavorless.
  • ★☆☆☆ Carciofi Fritti -- Fried roma artichokes, pecorino cheese, lemon aioli. The cook on this dish felt off - some parts were mushy while others tasted like charcoal. Overall, this dish was really bland, with too much cheese and not enough seasoning or acidity.
