General Notes

SOJO Ramen recently opened in Pacific Commons and it's a reasonably priced and solid option for ramen in the area. The ramen isn't extraordinary but very good nevertheless. I've only tried their tonkotsu, but they have some really interesting options for the broth. Definitely worth giving a try!

Positives

> Highly customizable, you can add whatever add-ons you'd like. In particular, you can add a large portion of karaage to your ramen for just $3 -- definitely try this out (the karaage is delicious)!
> Their yuzu soda is delightful. The yuzu flavor is a bit subtle, but the drink as a whole is extremely well-balanced (and not too sweet -- only 60 calories for a typical 12oz drink!)

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ Tonkotsu Ramen -- Broth and noodles are good to great but unspectacular. The chashu is next-level -- juicy, tender, and the perfect amount of fat. I have no idea how they manage to slice it so thin when it's so soft. I also added bean sprouts -- I'd skip this (it's very raw)
  • ★★★★ Chicken Karaage -- Their karaage is superb -- perfectly fried and tender. The batter is really something special. My only complaint is that I wish the marinade had slightly more sugar to balance out the flavors better.
