General Notes
I had high expectations for this place considering that it's opened by the same group of people behind The Morris. Unfortunately, the food and the experience didn't quite deliver to the same extent that I would have hoped. It's kind of like a seafood version of The Morris, and you can definitely see the influences / similarities in the menu. Even though my experience this time wasn't perfect I would still be down to return again in the future to try some of their other offerings, such as their fish and chips or gnocchi parisienne. If I were to come in the future I'd focus less on their random stuff (which are very expensive) and more on their entrees (which are pretty reasonably priced by comparison)
Positives
> The vibes are quite nice; I like the outdoor patio a lot. I requested a corner table in my reservation request and they were actually able to accommodate it, which I was pleased about.
Dishes Tasted
- ★☆☆☆ chocolate cake -- chocolate cake, buttermilk ice cream. Not a fan of the buttermilk ice cream, at least not by itself, you can definitely taste the sourness and it doesn't have a very good texture. But it works well with the chocolate cake. Unfortunately, it's just a normal chocolate cake.
- ★★★☆ sourdough with cultured butter -- the butter is VERY good. The sourdough itself is decent
- ☆☆☆☆ octopus kimchi sauce -- way too salty and honestly not a very good accompaniment to fried chicken, doesn't really add any kind of contrast. Would not recommend this, maybe try the mushroom madeira jus or andouille gravy instead
- ★★★☆ fried chicken -- half chicken -- fried well! I like the breading (it's light and crispy and a touch sweet)
- ★★☆☆ mussels -- mussels, anchovy, leeks, toasted levain. The buttered bread is nice, I like the sauce itself, but I feel like it doesn't permeate the mussels that well. They also didn't bring a little fork for consuming the mussels which made it a little more difficult to eat.
- ★★☆☆ butter lettuce -- butter lettuce, radish, pistachio, crottin. A little bit overdressed in my opinion, but the flavor is nice.
- ★★★☆ lamb + uni dumpling -- pretty delicious, the lamb flavor is excellent, although you can't really taste the uni much.
- ★★★☆ duck & lobster mortadella -- this tastes delicious, the duck really lends a nice flavor to it
- ★☆☆☆ oysters -- we ordered 4 of each of kusshi, sweetwater, and marin miyagi oysters. One of these (I forget which) had two really stinky and obviously bad oysters. The other two in the family also had a little funkiness to them but tolerable -- that batch was probably just not very fresh
