General Notes

The menu looks really promising and something that I'd enjoy a lot, but it just did not really deliver. I ordered a custom-your-own simmer huang pot. It comes with a variety of base ingredients (celery, carrot, onion, etc), and you can add on additional ones. The first time they brought it out (which took a while, around ~20m or so), the sauce was completely burnt and it was practically inedible. I ended up having to wait an additional 20 minutes and was ... a bit disappointed by the food. They did give me complimentary beef skewers while I waited, which was nice of them. This restaurant is just a little strange; they have a ton of servers but half the time they're just sitting around doing nothing. I would totally return with a larger group to try some of their dry pot and fish offerings, the fish in particular looks really good. But as is, I had a pretty bad experience here.

Negatives

> They don't have build-your-own dry pot bowls; that would be amazing if they did.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★☆☆☆ Beef Skewer -- Really tough; there was a lot of connective tissue. The flavor was pretty solid though.
  • ☆☆☆☆ Custom Simmer Huang Pot -- Base ingredients: celery, sweet potatoes, onions, dates, wolfberries, green peppers, red peppers, garlic, carrots. Added: lotus root, napa cabbage, rice cake, quail egg. I got it with the "spicy and savory" sauce. Pretty disgusting, would not get again. The sauce has an unpleasant acrid flavor, probably from all the celery and peppers. There's way too much of the base ingredients.
