General Notes

I'd describe Sikdang Woori as a restaurant that offers a variety of Korean comfort foods (at least, my definition of what Korean comfort foods are, no clue what actual Koreans think of as comfort food). Their menu looks incredible, and I was honestly having a really difficult time choosing what to get for a party of 7 -- everything looked so good. The food was not quite as good as I was hoping though, I found the dishes to overall be pretty hit or miss. There were a couple that were really good, but also quite a few that were very disappointing. Overall, I'd probably come back again but there's a large swath of the menu that I'd avoid next time.

Also had a pretty unusual experience with the service -- the waitress gave tremendous "boss sassy" energy. She pretty much ignored us the entire time (which was kind of difficult when we were trying to get her attention to get rice, or to get help to clear the table), responded to our questions in a pretty unique way, told us very confidently that we couldn't have outside food (for a birthday celebration), and also gave the birthday boy a shot. It was a weird combination of interactions, lol

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ Tteokbokki -- tteokbokki, deep fried vegetable dumplings, fish cakes, gimmari, etc. Good dish, good flavor, the accompaniments were surprising but quite good.
  • ★☆☆☆ Kimchi Pancake -- The flavor was decent but it was really thick and not at all crispy. Definitely get the one at Pyeong Chang instead.
  • ★★★☆ Army Stew -- I would have liked the broth to have a slightly thicker consistency, but otherwise it was exactly what I'd expect from an army stew -- amazing.
  • ★★★★ Pig Trotters -- served with ssamjang, salted shrimp paste, lettuce wraps, and a type of kimchi. Perfectly seasoned, intensely savory, and so tender. Goes great with the dipping sauces and lettuce wraps too. Definitely the star of the show for me.
  • ★☆☆☆ Soy Sauce Chicken Bulgogi -- Supposedly this is the "culinary star of Sikdang Woori" but I found it to be one of the worst dishes I had here. The flavor was good, but it's SO dry and overcooked.
  • ★☆☆☆ Pork Bone Broth Soup -- The soup was pretty good, but the pork was so incredibly dry, which left a lot to be desired
