General Notes
A solid option for sushi in La Jolla village, right in the heart of downtown by the ocean. The sushi is a bit on the expensive side but generally of very high quality. The other dishes are also decent. It's not mindblowing but good solid sushi in a lovely neighborhood.
Positives
> The sashimi is sliced very generously. It largely makes up for the fact that the sushi is on the pricier side.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ Nigiri -- In addition to the chirashi, I tried the toro, uni, aji, tamago, and scallop. Aside from the scallop, everything was so fresh and delicious. The scallop was disappointing -- relatively flavorless and overwhelmed by the shiso leaf (which is an interesting combination but too much, imo)
- ★★☆☆ Chirashi -- The fish itself was amazing, though I would have liked a bit more variety. It was served in a very strange way, essentially like sashimi some rice on the side. The rice was meh and the salad was terrible.
- ★★★☆ Seaweed Salad -- Great well-balanced flavor and nice texture.
- ★★★☆ Tempura Udon -- The tempura is fried perfectly and I love the variety of vegetables. The udon is average and not very noteworthy.
