General Notes

Shanghai Dumpling is a restaurant in Chinatown that specializes in 小笼包 and other similar dishes. They do offer a variety of other typical dishes as well, but as with most Chinese restaurants, you should really just go for what they specialize in. The food is excellent and also incredibly cheap. I'd recommend giving this place a try if you're craving 小笼包.

Positives

> The food is super cheap - $6 for a rack of 8 小笼包 or 6 生煎包, which should be approximately enough for one person's lunch if you're not too hungry.
> Compared to other restaurants in Chinatown, Shanghai Dumpling actually has a decent amount of space. Good for large parties.

Negatives

> Cash only, although this is pretty standard at Chinatown restaurants, and it's so absurdly cheap that it doesn't really matter that much.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★★ 生煎包 -- Well-fried, and it still contained a good amount of soup inside. The flavor and texture of both the bun and filling were excellent. Incredible value, $6 for 6, probably enough for lunch for one person.
  • ★★★☆ 小笼包 -- The wrapper is slightly too thick for my taste, but in general the texture of the wrapper is excellent. There is tons of flavorful soup that oozes out, and the filling has a nice soft texture.
