General Notes

A decent choice for Japanese food. Their kitchen items are solid and reasonably priced, but be careful with their sushi. Their nigiri (especially their "Today's Special fish from JAPAN") are extremely expensive and probably not worth it. They have several locations across the bay -- Sutter (SF), Metreon (SF), and Oakridge (SJ).

Negatives

> On the front of their menu, they list their "recommended dishes" but none of them have prices. Make sure you know what you're getting yourself into!
> They close fairly early (7:30pm on a Monday), so be mindful of that.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ Una Ten Donburi -- Eel and tempura are both prepared really well. The poached egg is perfect -- somehow the white is just the right level of soft without being runny (and the egg is cool!). There are some crispy bits in the rice which add a perfect textural contrast.
  • ★☆☆☆ Sushi Tokujo -- The quality of the fish is amazing, but the flavor balance is way off. Most of the pieces had too much wasabi and the shiso flavor was far too strong in the tuna roll. The front page also doesn't contain the price of this dish -- a bit absurd at $48 (didn't see the price until I got the check)
