General Notes

San Marzano is a popular Italian restaurant situated in East Village (and a place in Italy plus the famous brand of canned tomatoes). They specialize in pasta dishes - the pasta is freshly made, and diners can customize their pasta dish by choosing the shape and sauce pairing. Possibly one of the cheapest Italian restaurants that actually offers good quality food and a nice restaurant environment. If you're looking for an affordable yet refined meal, San Marzano is a great option.

Positives

> This is by far the cheapest Italian restaurant that serves good quality food in a comfortable environment. Last time I went, no item on the menu costs more than $10. It's kind of mind-boggling that they can offer such low prices.

Negatives

> This restaurant is extremely popular (probably due to its affordability). Expect to wait for a long time, even at off-peak times.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★☆☆ Rigatoni with Bolognese -- Good flavor and texture of the bolognese. The rigatoni was decently cooked, but the pasta was a bit thick for my taste.
  • ★★★☆ Brussel Sprouts -- Pancetta, fuji apples, pecorino. I've never had the pairing of apple and brussel sprouts, but it works wonderfully - the apples add a nice acidity and sweetness. Nice texture and well-caramelized, although the brussel sprouts could be better crisped. I would have liked to see a bit more pancetta that's slightly less crispy.
