General Notes

Saap Ver Damn Good is a strange Thai restaurant in the heart of the design district. They have a really large menu, supposedly spanning various regional Thai street food dishes. The atmosphere of the restaurant is pretty weird; the lighting makes it look like a party and there are Thai film posters plastered all over the walls. Definitely on the louder and more lively side. The food is pretty good, but not anything super spectacular.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ Wok Fried Cabbage with Fish Sauce -- cabbage, garlic, dried shrimp, fish sauce. A little too strong on the dried shrimp for me, but overall delicious, cooked perfectly.
  • ★★☆☆ Crispy Rice Salad -- northeastern style fermented pork sausage mixed with crispy rice, mint, ginger, peanut, red onion, scallion, cilantro, and chili-lime dressing. It's hard to go wrong with crispy rice salad -- it's one of my favorite dishes and it's hard to go wrong. I was not a fan of the ginger, and I found it to be a little bit too sour. I don't like how there was just one giant lettuce leaf at the bottom, rather than served on the side -- we couldn't actually make lettuce wraps.
  • ★★☆☆ Roasted Duck Curry -- red duck curry with tomatoes, pineapple, and lychees. The curry was excellent -- nice flavor and good consistency. The duck was definitely overcooked, roasted a bit too hard. It looks really small but it's served in a saucepot-like thing, and it's actually bigger than you'd think.
