General Notes

Ruffian is a tiny wine bar in East Village. There are only 20 seats in the entire restaurant, and they do not accept reservations or parties of larger than 4. I would absolutely recommend giving this place a try if you're interested in wine at some point - their selection seems quite extensive, the servers are knowledgeable, the atmosphere is nice, and the food is also delicious. Their focus is on seasonal dishes, so the menu can change every day.

Positives

> I don't remember exactly what wine I ordered (it was a 2018 Riesling, but I don't remember the rest of the details and am kicking myself for not noting it down), but it was delicious! It was very acidic, relatively dry, and refreshing. A great wine to start with, and a good pairing for the fairly rich pork liver pate.
> The staff here are all super friendly and knowledgeable!

Negatives

> A bit on the expensive side; the pork liver pate was $21, which seems a bit overpriced.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ Pork Liver Pate -- Pork Liver Pâté, Mizuna, Hyssop, Compote, Arugula Flowers. Amazing flavor and texture of the pork liver pate, and the compote pairs beautifully with it. The greens are a nice fresh addition. I only wish the bread were .. a slightly different texture? I'm not sure how to describe it. Otherwise though, the dish tasted amazing.
