General Notes
ROOH is an upscale Indian restaurant in SF situated near Oracle Park. It's surprisingly delicious and not as expensive as I'd imagine, considering the average ratings that it gets on Google. What stands out to me is how well they cook their meat -- for most Indian restaurants the cook on the meat feels like an afterthought, but each piece of meat that I had here was cooked to perfection. Order some saffron rice for the table -- it's so fragrant and delicious, in my opinion much better than their naan / flatbreads. Great vibes / ambiance too. Would return again to try some of their other offerings.
Dishes Tasted
- ☆☆☆☆ charred corn and miso bhel -- meh, this dish doesn't make sense to me and feels like i'm just eating corn nuts
- ★☆☆☆ naan / prata -- their naan and prata leaves a bit to be desired, it doesn't really have the type of texture that I'd hope for in a naan (either crispy, or warm / fluffy, ideally both)
- ★★★☆ saffron rice -- their saffron rice is so good + fragrant -- definitely get some
- ★☆☆☆ paneer pinwheel -- paneer cheese stuffed and rolled with nuts & spices, and layered over tomato makhani gravy. I don't like the pinwheel presentation, it's hard to eat and I think takes away from the texture of paneer. The toppings are alright.
- ★★★☆ lamb shank nihari -- slow cooked lamb served with rose petals and nihari. Super tender, flavor of the curry is excellent
- ★★★☆ rooh butter chicken -- pretty solid, definitely one of the better butter chicken that i've had. The chicken is surprisingly juicy and tender
- ★★★★ assamese pork ribs -- these are delicious -- fried well, excellent flavor, so juicy
- ★★★☆ chili garlic crab -- spicy garlic sauce, served with soft bread flavored with aromatic kaffir lime. Crab is cooked well, I like the flavor, and it's a surprisingly large amount of crab.
