General Notes
Very popular New American restaurant in Hayes Valley. It's difficult to get a reservation so definitely book far in advance. Overall, the food is pretty unique, innovative and solid, although some of the dishes can be hit or miss. There were some items I enjoyed a lot (like the sardine chip and the pasta), and some that I did not enjoy as much. It's actually pretty reasonably priced considering the amount of food that we got during this experience. I think it's definitely worth an experience although I'm not sure I'd return back.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ strawberry granita -- strawberry jelly, vanilla ice cream, shiso. This was very light, refreshing, flavorful, and delightful. It really brought out a lot of strawberry flavor.
- ★☆☆☆ mint chocolate sable -- milk chocolate mousse, milk ice. Not a fan of this combination, the mint chocolate sable tastes weird
- ★★☆☆ ribeye -- asparagus, green garlic, bearnaise. I liked the grilled flavor, the bearnaise was delicious, the beef itself felt a tad overcooked and not as juicy / flavorful as I hoped.
- ★☆☆☆ cauliflower "pibil" -- habanero kumbquat pico de gallo, mixed rice. The combination felt a little bit arbitrary, the cauliflower itself was a little overcooked without much textural contrast.
- ★★☆☆ dungeoness crab congee -- hot and sour, kohlrabi. This is an interesting combination, I enjoyed it surprisingly quite a bit
- ★★★☆ tonnarelli -- sea urchin 'cacio e pepe', idiazabal. This is delightful
- ★★★☆ aged beef wonton -- rt chili crunch. This is delicious, the chili crunch isn't too spicy
- ★★★★ sardine chip -- horseradish creme fraiche. This is delicious, I am definitely biased because I love the taste of sardines
- ★☆☆☆ spring lettuce mix -- spring onion and ginger vinaigrette, almond, coriander. Not a big fan of the flowery leaves, a little bit underdressed for my taste
- ★★★☆ sugar snap peas -- honey mustard, horseradish. I really enjoyed the flavor on this
- ★★☆☆ dried porcini doughnuts -- raclette. Pretty good not your typical doughnut
- ★☆☆☆ buttermilk panna cotta -- golden raisin, curried amaranth. This tasted pretty weird, not a fan
