General Notes
Solid restaurant for southern-Chinese banquet style food. This restaurant has been around for quite a long time and for good reason. It's super popular, there are long lines for the waitlist all the time. One thing that differentiates this place from others is the freshness of the seafood -- you can definitely taste the difference in some of their lighter preparations like steamed whole fish.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ salted egg yolk pumpkin -- fried well and good flavor!
- ☆☆☆☆ r&g special beef -- this tastes pretty awful, i'm not a big fan of this flavor. It's also hard + dry
- ★★★☆ salt + pepper crab -- one of their flagship dishes, battered + deep-fried crab with salt + pepper. Fried really well, the flavor is excellent, and the crab comes out surprisingly tender.
- ★★★☆ 清炒豆苗
- ★★★☆ 干煸四季豆 -- slightly spicy, so delicious!
- ★★★☆ 菜片海鲜松 -- stir fried minced scallops, prawns, Chinese sausage, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and pine nuts, served with lettuce wraps. This is delicious! All the components work together really well.
- ★☆☆☆ Sea Cucumber with Ginger + Scallions -- I'm personally not a huge fan of sea cucumbers, and the flavor of this felt a little odd. But the sea cucumber was remarkably tender.
- ★★★☆ 清蒸鱼 -- i think we got the sea bass -- well-cooked, flavorful, overall delightful!
- ★★★★ 鲜贝蒸水蛋 -- steamed live clams with beaten eggs. I've never had this dish before but this dish was FANTASTIC. Clams were large, fresh, and flavorful. The eggs had an excellent consistency, and the flavor of all the components just worked so well together.
- ★★★☆ Ginger & Garlic Crab -- flavorful and well-cooked! I was afraid that the flavor wouldn't permeate the crab very much, but I was surprised!
- ★★☆☆ 北京片皮鸭 -- Pretty solid but the fact that this was literally just the skin was ... a bit disappointing.
- ★★★☆ 孜然炒羊肉 -- tender slices of lamb sauteed with vegetables and cumin. Tender, flavorful, and really well cooked overall.
