General Notes

A cafe during the day, and a French/Japanese dessert bar at night. Both the French and Japanese influences are very evident in their desserts. In particular, most of the desserts are classic French techniques, but served with traditional Japanese flavors, such as their Hojicha Creme Brulee or Green Tea Souffle. One of their more unique offerings is their $16 dessert tasting menu, which is offered after 4pm. To call it a tasting menu is a bit of a misnomer since it's only really one large dessert and a couple of small items. But regardless, the experience is not quite like what you would get at other dessert bars. I would highly recommend giving this place a try, and I would absolutely come back to try their other offerings.

Positives

> The desserts are really refined, with a tremendous attention to detail.
> The combination of French and Japanese influences really shine through, and you can really see both display clearly in every dish. The flavor combinations are pretty unusual, but they work really well. The flavors are also surprisingly intense for desserts.
> They also offer a $9 alcohol pairing with their dessert tasting menu. The recommended pairing for the Earl Grey Souffle was a Chateau de Laubade Armagnac. I can't say that it was my drink of choice, but some of the other options are really cool (like a dessert wine with the Yuzu Sugar Sugar).

Negatives

> At times, I felt that some of the desserts were not quite sweet enough. This allowed the other flavors to shine through but it perhaps could taste slightly better. I suppose that's what you would expect from Japanese desserts though.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★★ Earl Grey Souffle -- Served with mango sauce and whiskey vanilla ice cream. This dessert was amazing, and also my first dessert souffle! The souffle was so incredibly tall. The inside was so soft, creamy, and fluffy, which contrasted beautifully with the surface of the souffle. I was skeptical at first, but the flavors also melded together really well, with the whiskey vanilla ice cream being the sweet/creamy base that pulled everything together.
  • ★★★☆ Coconut/Sesame Panna Cotta -- The flavors were really intense and concentrated. In general I'm not the biggest fan of sesame, but this tasted very solid. Too bad it was really small.
