General Notes
Neighbor Bakehouse is a lovely bakery in the heart of Dogpatch. I first heard of it a while ago through Eater and have been wanting to go for a while. I decided to come with a group of friends because we were planning to go to Dogpatch Boulders afterwards (which is just a block away). I was pleasantly surprised -- their pastries are incredible. There isn't any seating here, but there are a number of nice parks nearby (some of which offer nice waterfront views) which could make for a great picnic as long as it isn't raining.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★★ Honey Financier -- this tastes delightful -- it tastes kind of like a more dessert-y version of the cornbread at birdbox.
- ★★★☆ Ube Twiced Baked Croissant -- you can't really taste the ube, but overall the croissant tastes delightful
- ★★★☆ Pumpkin Spice White Chocolate Croissant Bun -- A little on the sweet side (particularly the white chocolate on the top), but the flavor is incredible. There's some kind of candied citrus peel on the top as well, which adds a nice acidity to the pastry. The texture is excellent; kind of between a croissant and a morning bun.
- ★★★☆ Milk Tea Blondie -- The flavor is wonderful -- the milk tea flavor is subtle at first but you can definitely taste it in the aftertaste. I enjoyed this a lot!
- ★★★☆ Ube Snickerdoodle Cookie -- Not quite as good as SPRO's cookie (but that's a high bar to compare to), but still very good.
- ★★☆☆ Curry Potato Bourek -- The flavors are nice, and the pastry itself is solid, though this was probably one of the items on the more forgettable side in my opinion.
- ★★★★ Roasted Mushroom Tart -- THIS IS SO GOOD
- ★★★☆ Ham and Cheese Croissant -- There's a hint of whole grain mustard in the middle, which adds a lovely touch.
- ★★★★ Pistachio Berry Twice-baked Croissant -- This is incredible! Unlike other twice-baked croissants that I've had in the past, this isn't too overly hard -- it still maintains the buttery / soft interior. The flavors aren't overwhelming, either.
