General Notes

Myeongdong Kyoja is a pretty well-known kalguksu restaurant (kalguksu is a Korean chopped noodle dish). As with many popular Korean restaurants, it only serves a few things on their menu: a few noodle dishes and dumplings. The line can be a bit intimidating (especially since the queue forms on a staircase), but it moves pretty quickly. Service is practically instant. The food is pretty good, but not particularly noteworthy. Super cheap though, like most food in Seoul.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★☆☆ Mandu -- "Myeongdong Kyoja's unique steamed mandu -- stuffing made of top-class female pig pork, vegetables, leek, and fresh sesame oil is all wrapped by skin that is nearly transparent." Decent but not particularly noteworthy; I'm generally not a huge fan of Korean dumplings.
  • ★★☆☆ Kalguksu -- "It is a fantastic combination of pleasant-tasting thick chicken broth, soft noodle, and garnish. It is Myeongdong Kyoja's unique kalguksu". The broth is definitely the highlight of the dish -- it's nice and thick and super flavorful. The noodles were overcooked for my taste.
