General Notes

Fukuoka is known for its motsunabe, a hot pot with beef offals. Apparently, this dish was inspired from Korea, which makes sense since beef offals are a common dish in Korean cuisine. This dish is absolutely delicious. I was a little worried going into it since I'm not a big fan of pig intestines. The flavor of the broth is wonderful, and the small intestine in particular is super juicy / fatty / savory. The motsunabe part is also served with a bunch of cabbage and garlic chives; this is more vegetables than I've had in any other meal in Japan so far.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★☆☆ mentaiko -- I got a side of mentaiko and a small bowl of rice to eat it with. It's not that spectacular by itself; a little bit overly salty and not particularly flavorful otherwise.
  • ★★★★ Motsunabe -- Offal (6 types), cabbage, garlic chives, and some miscellaneous other stuff.
