General Notes

Merit Vegan is a pretty ... strange restaurant. All things considered, the food is actually pretty solid; I just got unlucky with what I ordered (I tried a few of other peoples' dishes and they turned out quite a bit better).

Positives

> The servers here are ... very, very enthusiastic. Almost comically so. The server who took our orders was quite possibly the most expressive and bouncy person I've ever seen in my life.
> They seem to be pretty good with hosting large parties -- they were able to accommodate a party of 16.
> VERY cheap

Dishes Tasted

  • ★☆☆☆ Papaya Salad -- green papaya, spicy gluten strips, shredded fried tofu, carrot, basil, and tossed in sweet and sour sauce
  • ★★☆☆ Jalapeno Pop -- jalapeno filled with onion and garlic flavored vegan cream cheese. Served with spicy tartar sauce
  • ★★☆☆ Corn Dogs -- this tastes ... surprisingly like an actual corn dog!
  • ☆☆☆☆ Sweet Potato Curry -- gluten-free protein, organic tofu, sweet potato, onion, bell peppers, lemongrass, carrot, and garbonzo bean in coconut curry gravy. This dish was pretty terrible in many ways. The curry itself is way too liquidy, and there was too much of it (the ratio was off). The ingredients in the curry itself were fine (the bell peppers were undercooked), but cut in a very unwieldy way so as to eat with a spoon
