General Notes

Magic Donuts & Coffee is a delightful new donut shop that just opened by Jackson Park, super close to my new place. A friend recommended this place to me, and I was pleasantly surprised! Something noteworthy about this place is that they use sourdough to make their donuts, which gives it a bit more of a chewy and hearty mouthfeel, compared to say krispy kreme. I think it's a nice touch! Would definitely recommend giving this place a try sometime.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ Dark Chocolate Sea Salt -- dark chocolate ganache, sea salt. Simple but delicious
  • ★★★☆ Lemon Meringue -- lemon cream, swiss meringue. Each component is excellent; well-balanced. Delicious! I like the little dollops of lemon jam + edible flowers; it adds a nice touch.
  • ☆☆☆☆ Mocha -- Their mocha is pretty awful, you can barely taste the chocolate, and you can see that they use some kind of chocolate syrup instead of cocoa powder or something else
  • ★★★☆ Creme Brulee Donut -- Not exactly a filled donut, structurally kind of similar to a cheese danish. The filling is quite heavy on the spices, which I enjoyed. The top is brulee'd well. Delicious!
  • ★★★☆ Blueberry Lime Donut -- Blueberry glaze with plenty of lime zest. Excellent combination, the usage of lime zest is really smart.
