General Notes

Madame Vo actually has two close-by locations in East Village - Madame Vo BBQ (which just opened this year) and Madame Vo Kitchen (the one I went to). I'd characterize the food here as solid, but not spectacular. Dishes are generally executed well, but you won't quite experience the same mindblowing flavor profiles that you might get at other nearby Vietnamese restaurants like Hanoi House. That being said, I'd still definitely recommend giving this place a try - it's not the best pho in existence but it's still pretty delicious.

Negatives

> A lot of people have hyped this restaurant up to have the best pho. While the beef in the pho is very good, the broth and rice noodles are not that noteworthy. It's significantly above average and absolutely worth trying, but you'll be disappointed if you're expecting the best pho of your life.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ The Madame Pho -- Beef broth simmered for 24 hours with rice noodles, angus certified brisket, eye round, meatballs, topped with cilantro/scallions (+ short rib). I'd say the noodles and broth were around average, but the beef was pretty incredible. Tender, flavorful, and packed with a good amount of fattiness. The short rib was decent, although it could be a bit more tender and didn't work as well for an inherently brothy and not saucy dish.
  • ★★☆☆ Nem Nuong Cuon -- Grilled pork roll with rice vermicelli, lettuce, mint, and crispy rice paper. I love the chewy texture of the wrapper. The textures worked well and the mint added a nice touch. The pork itself was kind of like spam and could use a bit more interesting flavor profile.
