General Notes

LĒNA is an interesting restaurant in the Lower East Side. I came here for dinner and was disappointed. The food is very traditional French, but in a bad way - the dishes are bland and uninteresting, and honestly not executed very well. Compared to their dinner menu, the brunch menu seems a bit more promising, but I've never been here for brunch. Certainly overrated, and I would not recommend this restaurant; there are much better options out there.

Negatives

> I'd characterize the food as traditional French, but traditional in a bad way. The starters have way too much cheese and don't have much flavor; the cheese completely dominate the dish. The bouef bourguignon that I ordered was relatively bland, tough, and dry.
> The meal came with bread, but it was not great; it was cut into thin slices and really hard, almost like stale bread. It wasn't served with anything either.

Dishes Tasted

  • ☆☆☆☆ Boeuf Bourguignon -- Short rib fed grass, cooked in red wine with mushrooms and carrots. The beef was somewhat dry and tough. The flavor was okay, but slightly too acidic for me. The flavor of the dish as a whole was not very interesting and a bit lackluster, and the preparation of the carrots and potatoes was boring, in a bad way.
  • ★☆☆☆ Cassolette de Saint Jacques -- Scallops, pesto, cheese. This combination doesn't really work well for me. There is too much cheese, and it completely dominates the entire flavor. You can barely tell that there are scallops. I also don't fully understand why this was served in an escargot plate with small holes in it. The pesto is decent though.
