General Notes

Le Diplomate has the vibe of a classic French bistro. The food is pretty solid and the portions are quite substantial. We went the route of mostly ordering a bunch of appetizers / starters and only one main course, and we were pleased with the outcome. Most of the entrees do not look particularly interesting. They have three types of seating: indoor, terrace, outdoor. We sat at the terrace, which is a sort of covered outdoor area blocked from the elements by a tarp, and found it to be a good balance of indoor and outdoor. My main complaint with the food here is that I'm not a fan of the baguette, which is hard and dry and doesn't have a desirable texture, which goes well with a lot of the starters.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ creme brulee -- creme brulee is great, madeleine that it comes with is dry
  • ★☆☆☆ steak au poivre -- overall steak is cooked alright but the dish is way too salty
  • ★★★★ pate de campagne -- pistachios, pickled cipollini onions, cassis mustard. Quite good, love the flavor on this especially with the lettuce / dressing
  • ★★★☆ tartare -- hand-chopped steak, capers, quail egg.
  • ★★☆☆ burrata -- heirloom tomato, pickled red onion
  • ★★☆☆ french onion soup
  • ★★☆☆ escargot -- escargot is great, not a fan of the baguette it comes with though
