General Notes

This is truly a traditional, old-school French restaurant, with plenty of classic French dishes prepared with classic techniques. The food is average and probably not worth the price point.

Positives

> Coming here really feels like going on a time warp back to 1900 France. The interior decor and service are both decidedly traditional. The table-side service with the beef bourguignon is pretty cool too.
> They have a $44 fixed-prix 3-course option, which is a bit expensive but can be nice to try out a lot of dishes. During restaurant week, I think this decreases to $38.

Negatives

> Sometimes, cooking techniques are old-school because there are better options out there now. The food is decent but not particularly noteworthy.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★☆☆☆ Roasted Duck Breast with Green Vegetables Risotto -- Served with a sweet orange glaze. The duck was okay - it was lacking in seasoning, texture, and overall flavor. It was sliced a bit too thinly and didn't have the crispy skin that I like.
  • ★★★☆ Foie Gras Terrine -- This was my first time having foie gras. It was very buttery and delicious. The toast/marmalade accompaniments were also decent. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the cold terrine version though - I'd like to try a pan-seared foie gras next time.
  • ★☆☆☆ Nougat Dessert -- Honestly I'm not really sure what this was. It felt a bit like a less creamy ice cream, with dried fruits and nuts inside. It wasn't terrible but certainly doesn't align with my dessert preferences.
