General Notes
KJUN is an interesting Korean + Cajun fusion restaurant. Very smart restaurant name -- I definitely have to give them props on that. Overall, amazing restaurant -- the food is delicious. None of the food sounds like it is going to be particularly standout but the flavors really shine and speak for themselves, although not everything was a hit. It's been doing really well for itself and recently opened a second, much larger location just a block down from the original.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★☆☆ goguma pecan pie -- caramelized Korean sweet potato, NY maple, candied pecan, cayenne. This was just alright, the crust was overly dry.
- ★★★★ galbi brisket + grits -- jae's top chef: houston dish. Brisket, cherry tomato kimchi. This is AMAZING. The brisket itself is decent (not super noteworthy), but the combination of everything together is amazing. The grits are creamy in the perfect way, the galbi sauce is excellent, and the cherry tomatoes + radishes add a perfect acidic punch to balance everything out.
- ★★★☆ Beaucoup Fried Chicken -- gochujang marinaded chicken thighs. Fried well, flavor is decent, could be a touch more juicy.
- ★★☆☆ Collard Greens -- Not particularly noteworthy
- ★★★★ Okra Kimchi -- Surprisingly this was one of my FAVORITE dishes. The okra is perfectly balanced -- tart with just the right level of sweetness to balance everything out. I could not stop eating this.
- ★★★☆ Cod Beignets -- makgeolli batter, wasabi aioli. Basically fish and chips style fish, smaller. Very tender, perfectly fried.
