General Notes

Khao Tiew is rated as one of the best Thai restaurants in San Francisco, and for good reason. The food is really, really good. Everything that I had was so delicious, and I can't wait to try all of their other offerings at some point in the future. Be prepared to wait for a _very_ long time though. I came with a party of 5, and we put our names down at opening (4pm), and we still had to wait an hour and a half. Definitely will come back.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★★ burnt butter kaya toast with coconut ice cream -- so good, the burnt butter adds a nice texture + flavor to the toast.
  • ★★☆☆ duck breast red curry -- duck is excellent, curry is personally a bit on the watery side for me. Flavor is perfect, pineapples and tomato is a nice touch.
  • ★★★☆ crab clay pot rice
  • ★★★☆ khao soi -- with braised boneless chicken thigh. Overall pretty solid dish
  • ★★★★ khao pad mun nuer with soy cured egg yolk -- Beef short rib tallow fried rice topped with seared medium-rare beef boneless short rib, scallion, fried garlic, and homemade soy-cured egg yolk. The steak itself is excellent, but the real star is the fried rice, which is so flavorful.
  • ★★★★ crispy shrooms yum yum with ground pork -- fried oyster mushrooms, ground pork. The oyster mushrooms are fried perfectly, so savory and crispy. And the ground pork adds a perfect contrast to it.
