General Notes
Jijime is an interesting Korean / Japanese fusion restaurant. The best way that I can describe it is "Asian comfort food" -- large portions of satisfying food at a very reasonable price point. The food probably won't blow you away but its still very good. A solid option in the Richmond, for sure.
Positives
> The portions are quite large, and the prices are fairly affordable; we ended up spending quite a bit less money than we expected.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★☆☆ Soy Garlic Chicken Jjim -- Spicy chicken, vegetables, glass noodle, on sizzling plate served with steamed rice. A good combination, and prepared decently well, but I wouldn't say it's particularly noteworthy.
- ★★☆☆ Grilled Pork Belly -- Marinaded pork belly on sizzling plate, salad, steamed rice. The pork belly is SUPER tender and I enjoy the light smoky flavor. I'm personally not a big fan of the flavor, which feels oddly acrid. Especially the vegetables.
- ★★★☆ Okonomiyaki Fries -- deep fried potato fires with bonito flakes, creamy mayo, & savory katsu sauce. A good combination for sure, similar to the okonomiyaki tots that I had at Detour. I think it works a bit less well with fries than tater tots, but it's still pretty solid regardless.
- ★★★★ Boneless Fried Chicken (soy garlic) -- Korean style crispy boneless chicken with your choice of flavor. This was INCREDIBLE -- well fried, tender, super flavorful (the marinade is fantastic).
- ★☆☆☆ Curry Croquette -- deep fried curry mashed potato served with creamy ranch. It's well fried, but the flavor is a bit bland and ranch makes this dish too heavy -- it's definitely not the right sauce to pair with it.
