General Notes
Solid food, nice vibes, good for large parties. A good option for a Japanese izakaya in SoMa.
Positives
> I went with a group of 24 and we reserved a private dining room in the back. The vibes of this private dining room are quite lovely. There's also two TVs in the room, and they were supportive of us connecting a laptop to them via HDMI to watch the NBA finals
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ Tempura Ice Cream -- matcha ice cream, raspberry puree. Fried very well (retains its crispiness), the raspberry puree is a nice addition. The ice cream itself feels slightly "icy" and not as creamy, though.
- ★☆☆☆ Pork Belly Skewers -- Berkshire pork belly, salt, tare, plain. Pretty tough (not so tender / juicy). It comes with a sauce/paste which is OK but a bit too sweet with not enough soy sauce flavor for my taste.
- ★★☆☆ Spicy Beef Gyoza -- deep fried Japanese beef pot stickers
- ★☆☆☆ Tori Karaage -- deep fried chicken, awase shio, lemon, yuzu aioli, kochi djan miso. Dry, a bit over-fried, and not particularly juicy.
- ★★★☆ Cauliflower Tempura -- tempura fried cauliflower, matcha salt, yuzu aioli, tempura sauce. The batter is quite thin, which works well with cauliflower -- there are a lot of craggly crispy edges
- ★★☆☆ Age Tofu -- fried tofu, soy dashi, green onion, grated radish, bonito flakes
- ★★★☆ Una Kyu Roll
- ★★★☆ Salmon Avocado Roll
- ★★★☆ Spicy Tuna Roll
- ★★★☆ Salmon Roll
- ★★★☆ Tuna Roll
- ★★★☆ California Roll
- ★☆☆☆ Yuzu Hirame Carpaccio -- halibut carpaccio in yuzu dressing. Definitely on the pricey side; OK but under-seasoned.
- ★★☆☆ Seared Salmon Tataki -- house soy marinaded scottish salmon, garlic soy ponzu, shiso micro greens, roasted bell pepper. Solid but a bit under-seasoned.
