General Notes

A cozy, intimate Japanese restaurant situated right by Cooper Square / Astor Square. Their specialty is soba noodles - they offer a wide array of cold and hot soba dishes, including a variety of prix fixe options. They also have some really nice sushi offerings. I came here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I would highly recommend giving this place a try - a great option for a mid-to-high tier sushi.

Positives

> The sushi is amazing! I did not have a chance to try their soba offerings, but I ordered the chirashi. Even though it was fairly expensive ($39), I felt that it was probably one of the most worth-it sushi dishes I've ordered. A generous serving of sashimi, along with both ikura and uni, served over warm sushi rice. Each sashimi item was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The presentation was also really nice.
> The ambiance is really nice. The room layout makes it feel very cozy and intimate. It is also a comfortable noise level, not too loud nor too quiet.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★★ Chirashi -- Absolutely amazing, and definitely worth the $39 price tag. This was actually a surprisingly large amount of food - in addition to the around 14 pieces of sashimi, there was a very generous serving of ikura and uni. The sashimi was fresh and delicious, and the rice was warm with a perfect level of acidity.
  • ★★☆☆ Deep-fried Soft Shell Crab -- The flavor on this was nice, and it went pretty well with the Ponzu. The presentation was cool too - all the pieces of the crab were arranged together to be shaped like a crab. But I felt that the texture was slightly lacking, it was not fried as nicely as I would have hoped.
