General Notes
Decent restaurant serving Korean comfort foods in Temescal. I first heard of Hanshin Pocha through an Instagram video, which touted this place as a great place to get raw marinaded crab (which I really enjoyed when I was in Korea). Unfortunately, the raw marinaded crab here was actually quite disappointing, but their other dishes were pretty solid. The Instagram video might have hyped this place up a bit too much, it said "this place is filled with Korean college students, so you know it's authentic" -- in reality ... there was almost nobody there, even on a Sunday evening.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★☆☆ Kimchi Fried Rice -- the fried rice itself was pretty good, it's served with an absolutely absurd amount of cheese though which is just unnecessary.
- ★★★☆ Kimchi Pancake -- pretty solid, pretty crispy
- ★☆☆☆ Soy Sauce Raw Marinaded Crab -- A bit disappointing; the flavor was decent but didn't quite have the depth / complexity as the one at Odarijip, what was most disappointing was probably the lack of the body of the crab.
- ★★☆☆ Grilled Soy and Garlic Squid -- decent flavor, squid was a little tough / overcooked though
- ★★☆☆ Beef Belly Tteokbokki -- decent, but the beef belly is a bit unnecessary and there's too much other stuff going on in this dish (mostly, too many random vegetables) and barely any rice cakes.
- ★★★☆ Pepper and Garlic Chicken -- pretty solid fried chicken, this is also a massive portion, pretty great value
- ★★★☆ DIY Rice Ball -- simple and delicious flavor
