Han Dynasty is an overrated Sichuan restaurant, with several locations across NYC. I came here with a large group for dinner, and I was rather disappointed by the food. Simply not much stands out in a mass of relatively oily but not quite savory or intensely flavorful dishes. To be fair, I was still recovering from the stomach flu when I came here so my assessment might not be the most accurate. That being said, I still would not recommend coming here, there are plenty of better options in East Village.
> We decided to order the tasting menu, which in retrospect was a terrible decision. The menu was overcentralized, and nearly all of the items were dry stir-fry style dishes or noodle dishes (supposedly the most "popular" dishes). We missed out a ton of different saucy or brothy dishes like 水煮牛肉 or 豆瓣鱼片. We would have been more than capable of picking items from the menu we would have enjoyed.
> The dishes themselves did not stand out very much. There were some glaring flaws with the food, and while some of the dishes did have a spicy kick to it, they were generally pretty bland and not backed up with savoriness.
> There were a ton of noodle dishes (at least four) that came out at the start. It's a bit odd to me that they would give us so many noodle dishes, particularly at the start of the meal. I'd much rather pair Sichuan food with rice.
