General Notes
Geumsubokguk is a restaurant that specializes in fugu, or pufferfish. Certain innards are very poisonous if not prepared properly, so I imagine most fugu places are pretty upscale, like this one. It was good but not at all noteworthy. Fugu tastes ... just like your typical whitefish. Which is not surprising, lol. The preparations were good and things were generally prepared well, but trying fugu is honestly a pretty underwhelming experience. Note: the menu is entirely in Korean and the servers don't speak English, so there might be a bit of a language barrier.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ Fugu Soup -- Pretty good, the fugu honestly tasted pretty similar to catfish. Good soup, nice broth.
- ★☆☆☆ Fried Fugu "Jerky" -- This was not what I was expecting. I saw something akin to "fried fugu" on the menu and expected, well fried fugu. It turns out, the one we ordered was actually a dried, jerky-like fried fugu. Which was fried well and the flavor was nice, but oh my god it was SO tough and hard. It was really difficult to eat. This would make a good drinking snack but wasn't that pleasant to eat at an actual meal.
- ★★☆☆ Seasoned Salad -- Raw fugu, miscellaneous vegetables, all mixed together with a gochujang sauce. Tastes just like every other seasoned seafood salad I've had in Korea, which is to say okay with the gochujang overpowering the seafood.
