General Notes

Garaje is a great, affordable restaurant in the heart of SoMa. A coworker highly recommended this place and it didn't disappoint. They offer a variety of Mexican eats (perhaps most interestingly their zapatos, which is like a burrito but finished like a panini), as well as American classics like burgers and chicken sandwiches. The interior design is (as you might expect) decorated full of car parts, garages, and street signs. Pretty hip and poppin' vibes.

Positives

> They have what seems like a fairly extensive selection of beers and drinks. A good option for a casual dinner / hangout / beer.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★☆☆ Skirt Steak Street Taco -- organic corn tortilla, onion, cilantro, mild salsa. Tortilla is nice, skirt steak is a bit tough, flavors are nice.
  • ★★★☆ Zapato Calijandro -- flour tortilla, cheese, rancho gordo black beans, avocado, fries, mild salsa, pico de gallo salsa. Well made and surprisingly inexpensive. But would be a lot more enjoyable with some meat -- the texture is a bit too mushy otherwise. Flavors are nice and goes brilliantly with their habanero sauce.
  • ★★★☆ Baja Fish Taco -- beer battered tilapia, cabbage, house made chipotle mayo, flour tortilla. As the menu suggests, this is a HUGE taco. The tilapia is fried well, and the cabbage and chipotle mayo are well balanced. The flour tortilla is meh and I wish there were a touch more acidity, but overall great dish.
