General Notes

Gangnam Tofu is an all-around excellent Korean restaurant way up north in the East Bay, in El Cerrito. They serve everything that you'd expect from a typical Korean restaurant, like bibimbap, kbbq, soondubu, various stews, fried chicken, and more. Everything that I had here was delicious, and I'm excited to try some of their other offerings in the future.

Positives

> While the soondubu and fried chicken were excellent, the star of the show was actually the banchan. They have an excellent assortment of banchan and each item was so delicious. When I went, they had broccoli, cucumber kimchi, japchae, kimchi, eggplant kimchi, and gamja jorim. Japchae, eggplant, and potato for banchan is absolutely goated, you bet I asked for refills. I'm usually not a big fan of japchae, but this really made me reconsider my bias against it.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★★ Original Fried Chicken -- Honestly, tastes kind of like KFC on steroids. The batter is light (has a similar texture to tempura batter). The exterior is delightfully crispy and isn't too greasy. The interior is juicy and well seasoned.
  • ★★★☆ Kimchi Soondubu -- with pork. The flavor is excellent. Note that it's on the saltier side.
