General Notes
An upscale French bakery way at the eastern edge of Berkeley, just before venturing into the hills. This place can get very busy and for good reason -- the pastries are delightful.
Positives
> There's a small but pleasant nearby area with benches and a few tables, where you can enjoy your food (perhaps with some coffee / tea from Peet's Coffee right next door).
Negatives
> The line can be quite long, depending on the context. The line doesn't look too long but it moves fairly slowly.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★☆☆ Gougere -- pate a choux with Manchego & Asiago cheese, rosemary, chives & thyme. Essentially a savory giant cream puff. The falvors are so good, but the pate a choux itself is meh and I'm not a fan of the texture.
- ★★★☆ Morning Bun -- ceylon cinnamon smear rolled in ceylon cinnamon sugar. Flaky, delightfully buttery, and just the perfect amount of sugar / cinnamon!
- ★★★★ Almond Croissant -- Crisp and flaky on the exterior, buttery and perfectly balanced with the flavor of almond in the interior. I was very much tempted after trying the chocolate almond croissant at Fleur de Cocoa; this definitely didn't disappoint!
- ★★★☆ Canele -- Great flavor and texture. My #2 favorite pastry for a reason, only behind kouign amann.
