General Notes
Flour + Water is an excellent Italian restaurant in the outer Mission. From what I can tell, it's pretty popular + well known. Good food, nice vibes. They also offer private dining, which is what I came here for. I came here with a group of 14, and we reserved the room which looked exactly like the "Private Dining + Events" page on their website (https://www.flourandwater.com/private-dining-events/). We got a bunch of different appetizers, entrees, and dessert for everyone. It was a bit on the pricey side (~$200pp after tip/tax, including drinks) but a nice experience. They can host other sized groups, as well as offering a restaurant buyout. You'll definitely want to reserve far in advance if you do that, though.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ Dark Chocolate Budino -- caramel-espresso cream, sea salt. This was delicious, I would have totally devoured this if it weren't for the espresso.
- ★☆☆☆ Bianco Verde Pizza -- green garlic, ricotta, nettles, calabrian hot honey. The flavor is okay but not particularly noteworthy. The structural integrity of the pizza was not great; it was literally collapsing in the middle.
- ★★☆☆ Grilled Squash -- sultana raisin, pumpkin seed, brown butter vinaigrette. Not bad but a little too sweet for my taste.
- ★★★★ Farro Garganelli -- pork sugo, charred cabbage, calabrian chili. This was a super deliciosu combination, excellent texture on the pasta, flavors meld together well.
- ★★☆☆ Taleggio Scarpinocc -- aceta balsamico, parmigiano reggiano. Decent flavor, nice texture, but the balsamic is a bit overpowering.
- ★★★★ Amberjack Crudo -- sea buckthorn, preserved blood orange, pistachio, oro blanco. Delicious, very high quality amberjack (so soft), good flavor combination
- ★★☆☆ Chicories -- pomegranate, pear, sunflower seed, caramelized whey vinaigrette. It was a pretty solid salad, though not my favorite. A little too nutty and flavors were a little stronger than I would have liked.
