General Notes
Lovely Japanese restaurant near downtown Berkeley. The interior is beautiful and I really enjoy how the menu is oriented around small plates. A bit on the expensive side but it's a great place for a special occasion! I really want to try the Ebi Katsu Sando during weekend lunch sometime.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ Sea Beans & Corn Tempura -- Heron Farm's sustainably grown sea beans prepared kakiage style, served with matcha salt. This is an AMAZING dish aside from the fact that the dish is a little overly salty. The components pair together well and the texture is absolutely fantastic.
- ★★★☆ Agedashi Tofu -- Fried tofu with soy-dashi sauce, ginger, scallions, and bonito flakes. Great texture + well-balanced flavor!
- ★★★☆ Chicken Katsu Curry Rice -- Chef Asuka's famous Japanese curry, slow cooked for days to achieve depth and complex flavor, served with crispy fried chicken katsu, rice, and salad. The katsu is perfect and the curry has a lovely acidity and thickness. My only gripe is that some of the katsu had curry served on top of it, which made the katsu less crispy.
- ★★★☆ Sashimi Moriawase -- Chef's selection of assorted sashimi. Great quality, though pretty pricey (and the slices are fairly thin)
